√Ä l'automne 1981, deux étudiantes au MBA, Nora Kelly et Annette Wilde, fondent le Concours national l'étude de cas MBA, l'anc√™tre du Concours international d'étude de cas MBA John-Molson, tel qu'il est maintenant connu. Rassemblant un groupe d'étudiants et de membres du corps professoral, ces deux jeunes dames dynamiques tiennent la toute première édition de l'événement à l'hiver 1982. Cinq universités canadiennes participent : l'Université Concordia, l'Université McGill, l'Université d'Ottawa, l'Université Laval et l'Université du Québec à Montréal (UQ√ÄM). Les équipes de l'UQAM et de McGill se partagent alors le premier prix.

En 1992, le Concours devient international, et la tendance bilingue se confirme. Le nombre d'universités participantes atteint en 2007 le nombre de 36 équipes provenant de quatre continents, et chaque année le Concours prend de l'ampleur. Il s'agit aujourd'hui du concours le plus ancien et le plus important en son genre. La dernière édition du Concours a accueilli 180 excellents étudiants provenant d'écoles de gestion renommées, qui furent jugés par plus de 450 membres éminents de la communauté des affaires montréalaise. Cet événement d'envergure requiert la gestion d'un budget annuel de plus de $250,000, et son comité organisateur, avec l'aide du Conseil d'administration, commence à préparer le Concours neuf mois avant son banquet d'ouverture. Le ¬´ Prix Richard Outcault pour l'esprit d'équipe ¬ª célèbre chaque année l'esprit du Concours et la qualité des cas à l'étude est assurée par le prestigieux Concours d'écriture de cas, aussi géré par le comité administrateur.

Le cas “live” de la compagnie Jet Blue était une expérience incroyable! Le représentant de la compagnie a fait une présentation relevée et les caractéristiques du cas m'ont inspiré.

The event took place during the famous “Ice Storm” of January 1998. At home we had no electricity so I had to find a place to stay. Good thing that I had one of the Team Preparation room keys so I slept there on the couch. The next morning, Event Organizer Max Thompson entered the room and saw me quietly sleeping. His words ” You would make a great Organizer!”. I did just that the next year.

The convention of teams from universities from all over the world and the atmosphere of unity and understanding of diverse cultures were great and amazing experiences,… just as being a cow at the theme party. Fascinated by the perfect work of the organizing team, I thought that being able to help organizing this unique event would be a great opportunity to gain intensive practical experience and at the same time meet and work with people from the business community…and here I am!!

The Third Annual Case Competition started as a term project. Twenty years later, how proud we all are to see the enduring success of this great idea. This serves to show that, given the required dose of energy and positive thinking, small ideas can become great.
